Currently, the use of electric motorcycles is becoming increasingly popular in Thailand due to energy savings, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and as a convenient transportation option for urban dwellers. However, a common question is, “Is the range of electric motorcycles sufficient for daily use?”

According to research data from the U.S. Department of Transportation Statistics in 2021, most daily trips are short-distance journeys. Over 52% of all trips are less than 3 miles (approximately 4.8 kilometers), and 28% of trips are less than 1 mile (approximately 1.6 kilometers). These distances are relatively short, especially when compared to urban travel. Only about 2% of all trips exceed 50 miles (approximately 80.4 kilometers).

Travel refers to movements that include staying at places far from home for more than 10 minutes. Multiple stops longer than 10 minutes before returning home are counted as multiple trips, including driving, traveling by train, and flying.

For electric motorcycles currently available in the market, the distance that can be traveled on a single charge depends on the battery size and the vehicle’s efficiency. Most can run between 50-100 kilometers, which is more than sufficient for daily urban commuting. Since most daily journeys are short distances—such as from home to work, shops, or nearby places—the range is generally adequate.

Moreover, charging the battery of an electric motorcycle is easy, and charging stations are increasingly expanding in many areas. Using an electric motorcycle is therefore an attractive option for those who want to save costs and contribute to long-term emission reductions.

In conclusion, the range of today’s electric motorcycles is sufficient for daily use for short or medium-distance travel, especially in urban areas where most trips are short. Another advantage is the convenience of charging and energy savings, making electric motorcycles an appropriate choice for modern-day commuting.
